Ukrainian artillery, air units target Alchevsk - militia
LUHANSK. Aug 26 (Interfax) - The militia in the self-proclaimed Luhansk People's Republic (LPR) said on Thursday that a woman was killed during artillery and air attacks in the city of Alchevsk, Luhansk region, this morning.
"This morning, at 5 a.m., Ukrainian army fired artillery at Sarmatskaya and Volgogradskaya Streets, and Grad rockets a while later, consequently killing a woman before she had the chance to hide in a shelter," the LPR militia headquarters told Interfax.
The Ukrainian forces were firing from the village of Rodakovo, and then "the militiamen responded with Grads and artillery, covering their positions," the militia said.
The source also told Interfax about Ukrainian air strikes on Alchevsk. "The air force was operating over a quarry in Mykhailovka, there have been no reports yet about the results of the strike," the militia source said.
Ukrainian military officials were not immediately available to comment on this information.
Meanwhile, the Ukrainian National Security and Defense Council said on Thursday that fighting in the Luhansk region continues.
