Iraq counts on Russian humanitarian aid, willing to accept it from any country - diplomat
MOSCOW. Aug 28 (Interfax) - Iraq is counting on Russian humanitarian aid for residents of the regions where Iraqi government forces are fighting terrorists from the Islamic State, and it is willing to accept such aid from any country, Iraqi Ambassador to Russia Ismieal Shafiq Muhsin said.
"We accept anything from any country," the diplomat said in an interview with Interfax.
"We encourage even Russia to support Iraq with humanitarian aid. We accept everything," he reiterated.
The diplomat explained that what really matters for Iraq is not so much humanitarian aid in itself as the very fact that Russia is providing it.
"This [humanitarian aid] could be a symbol indicating that the Russian people support the people of Iraq in combating terrorists," he said.
The new Iraqi government, the formation of which should be announced within the next few days, will continue a policy aimed at cooperation with Russia, he said.
"I think the policy will not change by changing the people: prime minister or president," he said.
