Russia, Belarus intend to work on space technologies together

MINSK. Aug 28 (Interfax) - Belarus and Russia have come up with a new program of the Union State called Technologies-SG, which is aimed at developing technologies used for creating space technologies, Yury Makarov, the head of the strategic planning department at Roscosmos, said.

"The work on the program Technologies-SG, which will address technological work, is now nearing completion. I will not disclose the details in the interests of spacecraft equipment creation," Makarov told reporters in Minsk on Tuesday.

Makarov said the draft program has already been approved by all relevant Belarusian bodies and it remains to be approved by the Russian financial bloc ministries.

"We have yet to receive the approval of the financial bloc ministries. Our situation now is not easy for some reasons and therefore the prospects of the adoption of the Council of Ministers of the Union State of the future program Technologies SG are very probable after the approval of the ministries of the financial bloc is obtained," he said.

Russia and Belarus are also working on another five draft programs of the Union State, he said. "They are devoted to joint projects in the sphere of earth remote sensing and IT, and some programs are related to the integration of the space potential of Belarus and Russia," Makarov said.

Makarov also said "there are interesting proposals in the sphere of educational programs using the space potential."

Makarov recalled that Russia and Belarus are implementing two union programs in the space sphere. "We now have two programs, Standardization-SG, which is devoted to the harmonization of national standards in the sphere of space, and Monitoring-SG. It began working in 2014 and continues the scientific research that was conducted under the program Space - SG," he said.
