Margelov, South African president discuss rapid Islamization of part of Africa, situation in Ukraine
MOSCOW. Aug 28 (Interfax) - Mikhail Margelov, the Russian president's special representative on cooperation with the countries of Africa, has discussed the situation in war zones with South African President Jacob Zuma.
Margelov told Interfax his meeting with Zuma had addressed the rapid Islamization of part of the African continent.
"We discussed the situation in war zones, in the Arab world, in Libya, Egypt, Israel, and Palestine. Specifically, we talked about the so-called caliphate, which claims Syria, Iraq, and Nigeria," Margelov said.
Margelov said Zuma understands the Ukraine issue and the Russian position on the conflict in Ukraine.
Commenting on the negotiations between Russian President Vladimir Putin and Zuma, Margelov said the agenda of these negotiations demonstrates the broadness of Russian-South African relations, which comprise issues relating to strategic partnership development and expansion of trade and economic relations, including the increase of the import of agricultural products from South Africa.
