Kyiv, militia could start peace talks soon - Russian politician
KAZAN. Aug 30 (Interfax) - The way the situation is developing in Ukraine indicates that negotiations could be started in the near future between the Kyiv authorities and representatives of the self-proclaimed Donetsk and Luhansk People's Republics, says Sergei Mironov, the leader of the party A Just Russia.
"I have talked on the matter and have always said the same: only the militia's victory can force Kyiv to sit at the negotiating table, and this is what we are witnessing now," Mironov said at a press conference in Kazan on Saturday.
"I think some proposals on a negotiating process could be expected in the near future, because there is no alternative to this," he said.
"I expect and believe that we will see such negotiations and possibly an absolute ceasefire in a foreseeable future," he said.
The conflicting parties should decide at these talks how they will co-exist, Mironov said. "But what is absolutely obvious is that a Ukraine that existed before the last year's fall will never be again," he said.
