Mobile towers should be installed to monitor Ukrainian-Russian border - Donetsk regional administration head

KYIV. Sept 6 (Interfax) - Russia should agree to the joint monitoring of the Ukrainian-Russian border, says Serhiy Taruta, the Kyiv-appointed head of the Donetsk regional administration.

"The border should be controlled together with Russia under the UN and OSCE auspices. There are special high-precision mobile towers that could be installed along the border. Five or ten towers. France and America have such towers. The necessary equipment can be deployed and installed within one day. And that's it: the border is monitored in real time. Any violations are recorded. I know about such equipment, I made some inquiries," Taruta said in an interview published in the Saturday issue of Dzerkalo Tyzhnya Ukraine (Mirror of the Week Ukraine) weekly publication.

The installation of mobile monitoring towers was discussed at negotiations between the Ukrainian and Russian presidents in Minsk, Taruta said.

"Our president, the European Commission president, the guarantor countries, I mean America and England, and the EU leaders, such as France, Germany and Italy, should insist on such monitoring and ensure it," Taruta said.
