Defontaine eyes direct titanium supplies from VSMPO, readying order
MOSCOW. Sept 8 (Interfax) - France's Defontaine Rings is interested in receiving titanium directly from Russia's VSMPO-Avisma and plans to dispense with intermediaries, VSMPO-Avisma's press office said.
"Defontaine already buys titanium from VSMPO, not directly but via sub-vendors. Cooperation with a corporation that is integrated with the world economy is of interest to us from the point of view of the time needed to make a product, its price and mitigation of risk. We intend to continue to use Russian titanium and extruded titanium products. We need a dependable supplier, one like VSMPO," Didier Borowski, head of the French company's technical department, was quote a saying in a press release.
He said the VSMPO titanium would be used for the new generation of jet engines that CFN International, a joint venture between General Electric and Snecma (Safran SA), is making for transport aviation.
Borowski said "Defontaine was impressed by the quality of VSPMO's extruded sections and hoped to business with the Russian company for at least ten years. "We're ready to place an order soon," he said, adding that no additional requirements would be attached to the order.
