Nazarbayev: Kazakhstan may greatly increase wheat exports to Iran
ASTANA. Sept 9 (Interfax) - Kazakhstan may increase wheat exports to Iran five-fold, to 2.5 million tonnes a year, Kazakh President Nursultan Nazarbayev said.
"The commissioning of the Kazakhstan-Turkmenistan-Iran-Gulf railroad will enlarge our capacity for food-grade wheat supply five times, from the current 500,000 tonnes to 2.5 million tonnes in a later period," Nazarbayev said at a press conference after negotiations with Iranian President Hassan Rouhani in Astana on Tuesday.
"The railroad provides the opportunity to transports 10 million tonnes of cargo. This is of paramount importance," the Kazakh president added.
"Iran can reach vast areas of Russia and China by this railway, and we will reach all states of the Gulf," he said.
"The railroad will be ceremonially opened in the first ten days of November," Nazarbayev said.
Rouhani came to Kazakhstan on Tuesday on his first state visit.
