Family of pilot Yaroshenko applies for U.S. visa to meet him in prison
ROSTOV-ON-DON. Sept 9 (Interfax) - The Mother, wife and daughter of Russian pilot Konstantin Yaroshenko serving a 20-year sentence in a U.S. prison have submitted documents to get U.S. visas in order to go to meet with him.
"We have gone to the U.S. embassy in Moscow and submitted documents to obtain visas. It was necessary to explain the purpose of the visit at the embassy. Judging by the information we have, documents will be considered for two to three weeks," the pilot's mother Lyubov Yaroshenko told Interfax on Tuesday.
According to the pilot's mother, they were accompanied by a representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry to the U.S. embassy, who handed over the request of the ministry asking to grant visas to Konstantin Yaroshenko's family.
If visas are granted and funds are gathered for the trip, the family intends to fly in autumn or winter break, Lyubov Yaroshenko said.
Konstantin Yaroshenko was arrested in Liberia on May 28, 2010 on accusation of plotting to transport a large batch of cocaine and then deported to the United States. On September 7, 2011 the Russian citizen was sentenced to 20 years in prison.
