Russia helps Nicaragua with law enforcement equipment - official
MANAGUA. Sept 9 (Interfax) - Russia supplies specialist equipment for Nicaragua's law enforcement agencies and does not rule out supplying weapons and specialist equipment to El Salvador, said Viktor Ivanov, the head of the Russian Federal Drug Control Agency (FSKN), who is currently visiting Nicaragua.
"We are already helping Nicaragua. We are helping mainly with specialist equipment," Ivanov told Interfax on Tuesday.
A day earlier he visited El Salvador where he met with senior law enforcement officials as part of efforts to boost cooperation in countering drug trafficking.
Asked by Interfax about prospects for supplying arms and specialist equipment to El Salvador, Ivanov replied affirmatively.
"I spent a day in El Salvador where talks were held with a number of officials. We made a decision that this work (arms and equipment supplies) should be conducted under an intergovernmental agreement. A draft intergovernmental agreement has now been practically agreed by Russia and El Salvador. After its signing it will be possible to talk about working in this segment as well," Ivanov said.
