Two strategic subs to test fire Bulava missiles in October and November - Russian Navy commander

MOSCOW. Sept 10 (Interfax-AVN) - Two Project Borei strategic missile submarines will carry out the next launches of Bulava seaborne ballistic missiles in October and November 2014, Russian Navy Commander Admiral Viktor Chirkov told reporters on Wednesday.

"This October and November the Navy is due to perform two more missile launches by ballistic missile submarines," Admiral Chirkov said.

He also said that the Vladimir Monomakh nuclear-powered submarine under the command of Capt. 1st Rank Alexander Nadezhdin test fired a Bulava seaborne ballistic missile in the White Sea on Wednesday.

According to the Navy commander, the ballistic missile launched normally and all of its warheads reached the Kura range in Kamchatka.

Admiral Chirkov said the missile was fired on the orders of the defense minister to check the preparedness of submarines, including Borei subs, and the Bulava ICBM.

The Black Sea Fleet forces successfully test fired a Bastion system and hit its target on Tuesday, the Navy commander said.

"Measures are being taken to maintain the combat preparedness of the Navy within the strategic deterrence framework to ensure the national interests of the Russian Federation," Chirkov said.
