Over 33,000 hectares forest ablaze in Siberia

NOVOSIBIRSK. Sept 11 (Interfax) - As of Thursday morning, the Siberian Federal District had 36 wildfires at the area of 33,098.4 hectares, the press office of the Forestry Department for the Siberian Federal District said.

Thus, in the past 24 hours the wildfire area decreased 14.6 hectares - a day before a total of 33,113 hectares were on fire.

Tuva still leads in terms of wildfires - it has 25 wildfire outbreaks at the area of 434.5 hectares.

Wildfires have also been registered in the Transbaikal territory (three outbreaks at the area of 486.4 hectares) and Buryatia (six at the area of 42.5 hectares).

One wildfire has been registered in each Khakasia and the Krasnoyarsk territory at the area of 45 hectares and 90 hectares respectively.

Eleven wildfires at the area of 2,949.9 hectares in Tuva, Buryatia, the Transbaikal and Krasnoyarsk territories were extinguished.

In the past 24 hours a total of 14 wildfires at the area of 1,220.3 hectares were put out in the Siberian Federal District - in Altai, Buryatia, Tuva, Khakasia, the Krasnoyarsk territory, and the Irkutsk region.

As of now, special wildfire regime has been introduced in two districts of the Transbaikal territory and Buryatia. Emergency situation has been declared throughout Tuva and Buryatia.

Since the fire season began, a total of 7,942 wildfires at the area of 1.799 million hectares were registered in the Siberian Federal District.
