Increase in protest activity, electoral violations are possible before elections - Russian Interior Ministry
MOSCOW. Sept 11 (Interfax) - The Russian Interior Ministry predicts an increase in opposition activities in some regions of Russia before the September 14 elections.
"We predict an increase in public activity associated with attempts by opposition activists to get into the executive administration in some regions of Russia before the unified voting day," Yury Valyayev, the head of the Interior Ministry's department on public order and coordination of interaction with the executive authorities of he Russian regions, said at the meeting on preparations for the elections held in the Central Elections Commission on Wednesday.
"These factors may essentially catalyze an increase in protest activity and cause an increase in the number of crimes involving illegal production and dissemination of printed election campaigning materials and, consequently, the workload on territorial election commissions to recognize these materials as illegal," Valyayev said.
