Three hundred year-old musket seized from Crimean man

SIMFEROPOL. Sept 11 (Interfax) - Police have seized a collection of weapons dating back to the 18th-20th centuries from a resident of the village of Klyuchi in the Simferopol district, the Crimean Interior Ministry said on Thursday.

In particular, the 60-year-old man kept at his house a 1721 musket and an 1839-1844 flint-lock gun, the spokesperson said.

The collection also included a 1941 Simonov carbine, PPSh Shpagin machine pistols, a WWII-era MP-40 machine pistol, and a quantity of ammunition.

"According to the suspect, all these weapons were found by him on battlefields from various wars, including WWII, and kept at home as items of the personal collection, though he was about to sell some of the models," the press release said.

The police sent the seized arsenal to experts who will establish whether these arms and ammunition are combat capable.

The owner of the collection has not been detained yet. Law enforcers are conducting an inquiry before deciding whether the Crimean man should be prosecuted.
