Kyiv continues fighting dissidence, tries to block unwanted media outlets in every way - Moscow

MOSCOW. Sept 11 (Interfax) - The Ukrainian authorities constantly violate the freedom of expression and freedom of mass media, Russian Foreign Ministry Human Rights Ombudsman Konstantin Dolgov said.

"The incident with the Ukrainian newspaper Vesti is yet another step by Kyiv in the framework of the line to block in every way unwanted media outlets and to fight dissidence. Same as the ban of 15 Russian TV channels in Ukraine, these are links of one vicious chain," Dolgov tweeted on Thursday.

"Upon the connivance of its Western protectors, Kyiv violates seriously the freedom of opinion and mass media. The prolonged silent reaction of the West and insufficient attention of international human rights organizations to this situation raise questions. Double standards again?" Dolgov said.

It has been reported that investigators of the main department of the Ukrainian Security Service in Kyiv and the Kyiv region carry out procedural actions in the office of the Vesti newspaper over the case on the attempt upon the territorial integrity of Ukraine.

Employees of the Ukrainian Security Service have seized the office of this free Ukrainian newspaper, Vesti editor-in-chief and owner Ihor Huzhva said.

"Servers, on which the vesti.ua website is, are seized and because of this the website does not work," Huzhva said.

The newspaper said that at the moment it did not possess official statements as to what such actions of the special services were related, however the recent report about the daughter of the Ukrainian Security Service head or the parliamentary election campaign started were named as possible reasons.
