Artillery shelling is heard on outskirts of Donetsk

DONETSK. Sept 12 (Interfax) - Several explosions took place near a checkpoint controlled by the Donetsk People's Republic in the early hours of Friday.

The shots were fired from the territory of the Donetsk airport, which is controlled by the Ukrainian military, an Interfax correspondent has reported.

"This is not the first provocation by the enemy in the past 24 hours," the Donetsk People's Republic's army said.

There is no information on casualties.

Interfax currently has no information on the reaction of the official Kyiv authorities to these events.
