West should back Poroshenko's interest in promoting peace agreements - Lavrov
MOSCOW. Sept 13 (Interfax) - Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov has called on the Western countries to support Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko's desire to settle the conflict in the eastern part of the country peacefully.
"I believe the West should support President Petro Poroshenko's determination to implement the peace agreements, because all the others, or at least a lot of them, are trying to seriously prevent him from doing so," Lavrov said in an interview shown on the TVC channel on Saturday.
"It seems to me that Poroshenko is interested in promoting peace agreements and needs support, primarily from the West, which was focused on putting the Ukrainian situation on the legitimate track after the post-Maidan state," Lavrov said.
