Single voting day held in Russia
MOSCOW. Sept 15 (Interfax) - Over 6,000 ballots of various levels were held on Sunday, September 14, a single voting day in Russia, involving more than 75 million voters, which, in the opinion of the Russian Central Elections Commission, was a record index for regional and local elections.
"There were more than 75 million citizens of our country on the voter lists. Perhaps, this is a record number of voters involved in regional elections in the entire history of Russia's electoral system," Central Elections Commission Deputy Chairman Leonid Ivlev said last week.
Governors were elected in 30 regions.
Tentative reports posted by the Central Elections Commission declared the victory of incumbent governors in all regions.
Fourteen constituent territories of Russia, including two new - Crimea and Sevastopol, elected regional parliaments.
