Missiles launched as part of EMD surprise checks, all targets destroyed

MOSCOW. Sept 16 (Interfax) - The coastal and air defense troops and task forces of the Russian Navy's Pacific Fleet (PF) fired missiles at surface and aerial targets as part of a surprise troop inspection currently held in the Eastern Military District (EMD).

All launches were successful, the weapons of the surface and aerial mock enemy have been destroyed, a spokesperson for the Russian Defense Ministry told Interfax on Tuesday.

"Missiles were fired at real targets simulating aerial targets and surface ships of a mock enemy. The accuracy of launches was registered by special monitoring systems and from unmanned aerial vehicles," the defense ministry said.

In particular, the S-300 air defense missile division of the PF coastal troops destroyed two target missiles on the far border of the system damage zone, he said. The target missiles were launched from the PF's Smerch and Moroz missile ships.

The PF task forces destroyed surface targets with cruise missiles launched from surface ships and submarines.

"The crew of the Bystry destroyer launched a cruise missile and destroyed a surface target at a range of over 70 kilometers. The crews of nuclear submarines successfully launched cruise missiles from the underwater position. All targets have been hit," the defense ministry said.

"The missile launches were conducted in a complex environment, with the mock enemy using electronic jamming devices. The combat mission was conducted in real time," the defense ministry said.
