Two civilians killed in artillery fire - Donetsk authorities
KYIV. Sept 17 (Interfax) - Two civilians have been killed and three people have sustained shrapnel wounds in as a result of artillery fire in Donetsk by midday on Wednesday, the Donetsk city council said.
"Fierce fighting has continued near the Donetsk airport since morning. The fighting resulted in more serious damage to infrastructure and harm to residents of the Kyivsky district. Fires broke out at impact sites and were being tackled by local teams from the Ukrainian Emergencies Situations Ministry. The explosion wave smashed part of windows in houses," the spokesperson said.
In the private-property sector, several houses are on fire, but the continuous shelling has prevented firefighters from reaching the area.
Massive artillery shelling of the northern part of the Kyivsky district led to damage to gas pipelines. Emergency teams from DonetskCityGas were able to contain the incidents on the streets and main gas pipelines at the following addresses: 20 Buslayev Street, 153 Sobinov Street, 2 Aristov Street, 13 Michurinska Street, 42 Stratonavtov Street (private properties), and 52 and 54 Kyivsky Prospekt (tower blocks).
