Ukraine "ruined any hopes to restore Soviet Union" - President Poroshenko

KYIV. Sept 18 (Interfax) - Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko believes that the world ought to review its security systems.

In an interview with the CBC television station, Poroshenko, who is currently on a visit to Canada, said that "Ukraine needs the entire world to unite in tackling its security issue more than anything else today."

"Petro Poroshenko noted that post-war [World War II] mechanisms of security are no longer working. The world ought to review its security systems, and Canada's position on this matter is highly important," the Ukrainian president's press service said.

When asked about the possibility of a new "cold war", Poroshenko said that the Ukrainian parliament voted in favor of ratifying the Association Agreement with the European Union.

"Ukraine crossed the Rubicon and ruined any hopes to restore the Soviet Union. We are a European nation," Poroshenko was quoted as saying by his press service.
