Sakhalin-2 project could pump gas for future Rosneft LNG plant - Sakhalin governor
SOCHI. Sept 22 (Interfax) - The gas transportation system of the Sakhalin-2 project is able to pump additional volumes of gas for a future Rosneft liquefied natural gas (LNG) plant and for the third line of an existing LNG plant in the south of Sakhalin, Governor of the Sakhalin region Alexander Khoroshavin said.
"According to the information we have - and we have practically all information on these projects - the gas transportation system of Sakhalin under the specific modernization that is possible is capable of pumping all volumes of gas that will be needed at both the new Rosneft plant and at the third line of the existing LNG plant of the Sakhalin-2 project," he told Interfax on Monday.
Khoroshavin added that it will be necessary to implement "certain technological changes, but they are not critical."
"We understand that these projects can be carried out given certain technology and certain innovations," the governor said.
As reported, Rosneft filed a lawsuit against Sakhalin-2 operator Sakhalin Energy on July 7 to secure non-discriminatory access to free capacity on Sakhalin-2's trunk gas pipeline. The arbitration court of the Sakhalin region moved the date it would consider the case to October 13.
On September 23 the Federal Anti-Monopoly Service (FAS) is set to review the case for signs of anticompetitive practices by Sakhalin Energy in its refusal to connect Rosneft to the trans-Sakhalin pipeline system.
Following a meeting of the commission on the fuel and energy complex, Russian President Vladimir Putin tasked the government with reviewing by October 1 the issue surrounding the transportation of Rosneft gas via the gas pipeline that belongs to Sakhalin Energy.
