Caspian countries should not conduct military development to each other's detriment - Russian Foreign Ministry
MOSCOW. Sept 22 (Interfax) - Russia does not see a need for the demilitarization of the Caspian countries, but believes that the military development of the regions' countries should not hurt their neighbors, Russian Foreign Ministry charge d'affaires Igor Bratchikov said.
"let's be frank: all coastal countries are modernizing their Caspian flotillas based on their own security interests, which they do not see on an isolated 'Caspian scale,' but in a comprehensive way, with regard for the threats coming mainly form sources outside the region and the presence of explosive situations in direct vicinity of the Caspian region," he said in an interview with the magazine Caspian Energy.
"For this reason, it would probably be right to talk about military development that will not hurt the neighbors' security, the transparency and predictability of any actions in the military sphere," the Russian diplomat said
