Russia has removed Russian spent nuclear fuel from Hungary

VIENNA. Sept 22 (Interfax) - Russia has removed spent nuclear fuel from Hungary, Rosatom CEO Sergei Kiriyenko said at the 58th general conference of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) in Vienna on Monday.

"We and our Hungarian colleagues successfully completed the technically complex program to remove spent nuclear fuel from the nuclear power plant Paks in August 2014," he said, adding that the last batch of the spent nuclear fuel has been delivered to the federal state unitary enterprise PO Mayak " for processing.

According to earlier reports, the highly-enriched uranium fuel is returned to Russia from third countries under a Russian-U.S. program. The program comprises 14 countries.
