NSDC: Ukrainian army withdrawing hardware 15 km, militia acting similarly
KYIV. Sept 22 (Interfax) - The Ukrainian army is pulling heavy hardware 15 kilometers back in accordance with the Minsk deal, Ukrainian National Security and Defense Council (NSDC) Information Analysis Center Speaker Andriy Lysenko said.
"The withdrawal of heavy armaments to a distance of 15 kilometers is being prepared," Lysenko said at a press briefing on Monday.
He said that category included all of the artillery and armored vehicles with cannons of 100 mm or more.
The militia is acting similarly, Lysenko said, adding "their actions are less intensive." Lysenko said he expected the militiamen "would follow the example of the Ukrainian servicemen."
A provision of the Minsk memorandum approved on September 19 requires the withdrawal of heavy armaments with a caliber exceeding 100 millimeters from the line of contact by at least 15 kilometers on each side, in particular, from populated localities, which would create a security zone of at least 30 kilometers.
