Russian customs chief says EU goods could be shipped via Ukraine
MOSCOW. Sept 24 (Interfax) - The head of Russia's Federal Customs Service (FCS) said it was possible banned European goods are being shipped to Russia disguised as Ukrainian goods.
"We get the feeling Ukraine has already joined the EU. Take, for example, meat shipped to Russia. Ukraine used to have a 5% share of this segment, but now it has 55%," Andrei Belyaninov said in the State Duma.
He added that there was currently no dialogue taking place between Russia's FCS and the responsible Ukrainian authorities. "For that reason, we have been forced to accept the documents presented to us in good faith, and I share your concern: goods not actually produced by the Ukrainian Republic could be imported into the Russian Federation," Belyaninov said, adding that there were doubts in the authenticity of documents presented by Ukrainian freight carriers.
This issue concerns the border of the Central Federal District from the Voronezh region to the Bryansk region.
