Ukraine simplifies import of defense products

KYIV. Sept 24 (Interfax) - Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko has signed laws amending the Customs and Tax Codes of Ukraine by simplifying the import of defense products, says a report posted on the Ukrainian parliament website.

In early September, the Ukrainian parliament passed the laws On Changes to the Customs Code Simplifying the Import of Defense Products and On Changes to the Tax Code Simplifying the Import of Defense Products, which simplify the import of defense products.

Ukrainian Deputy Defense Minister Petro Mehed said the changes proposed by the government will reduce the cost of bringing defense products into the country's customs territory.

In accordance with the changes, the Customs Code will state the codes for groups of defense products that are exempt from customs duties and will lift these duties fully, not for some period of time (special period, emergency situation, anti-terrorist operation). The said changes envision codes for groups of defense products that are exempt from the VAT. At the same time, both imported and Ukrainian defense products are exempt from the VAT.
