Ukraine will react effectively if Russia imposes sanctions - Poroshenko
KYIV. Sept 25 (Interfax) - Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko said Ukraine is ready to react effectively if Russia introduces unilateral sanctions against Ukraine.
"The law envisages a special meeting of the National Security and Defense Council, where we will analyze the risks and threats. I want to assure you that Ukraine's reaction will be prompt and effective if Russia introduces unilateral sanctions against Ukraine," he told a press conference in Kyiv on Thursday.
Poroshenko believes all decisions made by on trade restrictions and sanctions on Ukraine should be approved by the Eurasian Economic Commission.
"I don't see any grounds for any sanctions on Kazakhstan and Belarus, which are our reliable trade partners. Moreover, I think that, now that Kazakhstan and Belarus have entered the Customs Union, issues relating to the use of protective measures and sanctions by Russia should be regulated by the Eurasian Economic Commission because it has delegated powers there," he said.
