Total of 120,000 tonnes of pipes to be shipped in 2014 for Power of Siberia pipeline
VYKSA. Sept 25 (Interfax) - Total shipments of pipes for the construction of the Power of Siberia gas pipeline will total 120,000 tonnes in 2014, United Metallurgical Company (UMC) President Vladimir Markin told journalists.
UMC delivered the first shipment of over 30,000 tonnes in July and August of this year.
Next year overall supplies may total between 350,000 tonnes and 600,000 tonnes, Markin added.
"UMC has mastered the production of pipes for tectonic faults," Gazprom CEO Alexei Miller told journalists, commenting on Gazprom's cooperation with Russian pipe manufacturers. These pipes will be used to build the Power of Siberia pipeline.
Pipe Producers Association Chief Ivan Shabalov told journalists that Gazprom needed an estimated 2 million tonnes of large-diameter pipes (LDP) before 2015.
He added that this estimate does not include Gazprom's need for projects such as the on- and offshore sections of the South Stream project in Europe.
In addition, pipe supplies for the Power of Siberia pipeline will be "just over 600,000 tonnes" next year, Shabalov said.
Overall LDP procurements will total approximately 1.3 million tonnes in 2014, 800,000 tonnes of which have already been shipped. Supplies will total 122,000 tonnes for the Power of Siberia pipeline this year.
