Russia has destroyed over 83% of its chemical weapons - General Kapashin
VILLAGE OF MIRNY (Kirov region). Sept 25 (Interfax-AVN) - The Maradykovsky chemical weapons storage and destruction facility, which is in the village of Mirny, Kirov region, has 2014 fulfilled the state defense contract before the deadline, Colonel-General Valery Kapashin, head of the Federal Department on safe Storage and Destruction of Chemical Weapons, told Interfax-AVN on Thursday.
"A total of 99.9% of the toxic substances stored here had been destroyed as of September 25," Kapashin said.
Kapashin recalled that several chemical weapons destruction facilities have been created and put into operation in Russia.
"Five of them continue working and two have already completed the work. Generally, over 83% of the chemical weapons resources, or over 33 tonnes of toxic substances, were destroyed in Russia as of late September," Kapashin said.
