Vostok-2014 exercise forces head back to permanent bases

MOSCOW. Sept 26 (Interfax) - Armed Forces units that took part in the Vostok-2014 (East-2014) strategic command and staff exercises have started to return to their permanent bases, a Russian Defense Ministry spokesman told Interfax on Friday.

"Forces of the Eastern Military District, the Pacific Fleet, the Air Force, the Long-Distance and Military-Transport Aviation, and the Airborne Troops are now en route to the sites for loading on to trains, ships and airplanes. All aircraft are being redeployed to their permanent airfields. Ships of the Pacific Fleet are regrouping in accordance with their combat training plans," the spokesman said.

The Vostok-2014 drills, which kicked off in Russia's Far East on September 19, involved more than 155,000 servicemen and approximately 8,000 weapons and units of military hardware, including 4,000 armored combat vehicles, 632 airplanes and 84 ships.
