Ukraine reserves right to challenge transit contract with Gazprom through arbitration - Prodan
BERLIN. Sept 26 (Interfax) - Ukraine reserves the right to challenge its contract with Gazprom regarding natural gas transit through its territory through a Stockholm arbitration court, Ukraine's Energy Minister Yuriy Prodan told a press conference after gas talks between Russia, Ukraine and the European Union.
Ukraine considers these contracts to not be in compliance with EU laws, he said.
Prodan said that during talks with the European Commission (EC) Ukraine proposed to set up a group of experts from Gazprom, the EC, and Ukraine, as well as European gas transmission system operators and traders. He said that such a commission could make conclusions as to whether the gas transit contracts between Gazprom and European operators, and between Gazprom and Naftogaz Ukrainy comply with EU laws.
