Moscow proposes conducting in-depth study of terrorist threats in Middle East, Central Asia under UN SC aegis - Lavrov

NEW YORK (UN). Sept 27 (Interfax) - A broad study of the terrorist threats must be conducted under the aegis of the UN Security Council, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said.

"We propose organizing an in-depth study of extremist and terrorist threats in the Middle East and Central Asia in their entirety under the aegis of the UN Security Council. The comprehensive approach would also provide for a study of long-lasting conflicts, first of all the Arab-Israeli conflict," Lavrov told the UN general Assembly.

"It is generally believed that the volatile Palestinian problem has been one of the main factors of instability in the region for many decades, allowing the extremists to recruit more jihadists to their ranks," he said.
