Caspian leaders to launch final stage of work on legal status convention in Astrakhan

MOSCOW. Sept 29 (Interfax) - Russian President Vladimir Putin will play host to the Fourth Caspian summit in Astrakhan on Monday. The leaders of Azerbaijan, Iran, Kazakhstan and Turkmenistan will attend the event.

Moscow expects "the summit to be very effective." Kremlin aide Yuri Ushakov said at a press briefing before the Astrakhan summit that the prospective political statement of the five leaders "will be highly substantive."

The foreign ministers of the five littoral states were supposed to give the final touch to the document on Sunday.
