Over 230 captured militiamen already swapped with Kyiv - DPR

DONETSK. Sept 29 (Interfax) - More than 230 captives have been returned to the prisoner exchange committee to the self-proclaimed Donetsk People's Republic (DPR).

"We have carried out approximately five swaps, or officially 234 people have been released from Ukrainian captivity. Approximately the same number has been received by the Ukrainian side as well," a committee representative told journalists on Monday

He recalled that during the last swap the Ukrainians had handed over 30 more people.

Checks are underway to establish whether the captives due to be released have anything to do with the DPR and the militia, he said. "If it turns out that the released captives were arrested specifically for the exchange and on fabricated charges, then we will not give them our captives in exchange," he said.

Earlier the militia repeatedly blamed the Ukrainian side for ostensibly arresting people who have nothing to do with the events in the Donbas region in order to exchange them for their captive soldiers.
