Sevmash Dir Gen: Vladimir Monomakh sub to be delivered to Russian Navy on Dec 10
SEVERODVINSK. Oct 1 (Interfax-AVN) - State trials of the Vladimir Monomakh nuclear-powered missile carrying submarine of Project 955 "Borei" are complete and the sub will be delivered to the Russian Navy on December 10, Sevmash shipyard General Director Mikhail Budnichenko said on Wednesday.
"In fact, this trip [which included a Bulava missile test-launch from the Vladimir Monomakh on September 10] finalized state trials of the submarine. We will now act by the plan: examine mechanisms, do finishing work, load and distribute spare parts and equipment and on December 10, we have no doubts about that, we will sign the acceptance act strictly according to the schedule approved by the Defense Ministry," Budnichenko said in a program aired by the Vesti Sevmasha video project.
The Vladimir Monomakh is the third missile-carrying Borei project submarine designed by the Rubin Central Design Bureau for Marine Engineering. Sevmash, a business unit of the United Shipbuilding Corporation (USC), laid the submarine keel on March 19, 2006. The strategic submarine was launched on December 30, 2012.
The sub will be armed with the brand-new ICBM Bulava.
The Vladimir Monomakh test-fired a Bulava missile from the White Sea on September 10.
