Matviyenko urges use of all mechanisms to bring peace to Ukraine

MOSCOW. Oct 1 (Interfax) - Federation Council Chairperson Valentina Matviyenko has called for the use of all mechanisms in order to bring peace to Ukraine.

"It is important to use every possible mechanism, including parliament diplomacy, to achieve long-awaited peace and stability on the basis of the fragile truce in Ukraine, to maximally soften the harsh effects of the humanitarian catastrophe and to ensure the triumph of truth and justice," Matviyenko said at a Federation Council plenary meeting on Wednesday.

"Resolute efforts taken by Russian President Vladimir Putin towards the peaceful resolution of this conflict have clearly demonstrated to the international community that Russia adheres to the principles of international law and is an independent and authoritative power, whose position and interests must be reckoned with," she said.
