Far Eastern wildfires confined to Amur region
KHABAROVSK. Oct 2 (Interfax) - Five wildfires are raging in the Russian Far East, all of them in the Amur region, the district forestry department said on Thursday.
"The flames spread across over 370 hectares in the past 24 hours. Firefighting continued in the Amur region on Thursday morning. There were no fires left in other areas of the Far Eastern Federal District," the report said.
More than 2,300 wildfires have broken out across over 1.7 million hectares in the Russian Far East this season. The district saw 1,028 wildfires across slightly more than 886,000 hectares in the corresponding period of last year.
