Minister Avakov: Hostilities in eastern Ukraine kill 134 Interior Ministry, National Guard servicemen

KYIV. Oct 2 (Interfax) - The hostilities in eastern Ukraine had claimed the lives of 134 officers of the Ukrainian Interior Ministry and the National Guard and another 628 had been wounded as of October 2, Interior Minister Arsen Avakov wrote on Facebook in Thursday.

He said the Interior Ministry had lost 68 men killed and 273 wounded and the National Guard casualties stood at 66 killed and 355 wounded.

A total of 31 Interior Ministry officers and 59 National Guard servicemen (90 men in total) are missing. Five police officers and 155 National Guard soldiers (160 men in all) are being held prisoner.

The army operation in the Luhansk and Donetsk regions was launched in the middle of April this year.
