Soldier injured in shootout with militants in Dagestan village

MAKHACHKALA. Oct 2 (Interfax) - A soldier of Makhachkala's special operations units is believed to have been injured in an exchange of fire with militants in the village of Vremenny of the Untsukul district of the Republic of Dagestan in Russia's North Caucasus, a source in local law enforcement agencies told Interfax on Thursday.

"A militant group was trapped inside one of the houses. They refused to surrender and a shootout broke out. A soldier from the special operations units was injured," the source said.

A counter-terrorism operation was launched earlier in the Untsukul district of Dagestan.
