Over 190 kilograms of spice smoking blends seized in Moscow in 2014

MOSCOW. Oct 7 (Interfax) - More than 190 kilograms of illegal spice smoking blends were confiscated in Moscow in January-August 2014, a spokesman for the city branch of the Russian Federal Drug Control Service told Interfax on Tuesday.

"Over the first eight months of the year, 118 crimes involving illegal sales of smoking blends were registered. More than 190 kilograms of banned substances were confiscated," he said.

Some 90 people have been detained on suspicion of selling illegal spice smoking blends, he said.

"Our analysis of information about the detained persons has shown that Muscovites make up just a fraction of them, while 70% of these people are residents of other Russian regions, mainly the Republic of Dagestan, as well as natives of CIS member countries, including Moldova, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan and Kyrgyzstan," the spokesman said.

Psychedelic substances have been smuggled into Russia from China, Ukraine, Italy, Spain, Belgium, Portugal, Lithuania, Latvia, the United Kingdom, Belarus, Canada, the Netherlands, Germany, and Kyrgyzstan, he added.
