Moscow warns against demonstration of force in solving Cyprus dispute

MOSCOW. Oct 9 (Interfax) - Unilateral actions and demonstration of force are unacceptable in the Cyprus settlement process, the Russian Foreign Ministry said after a meeting between Deputy Foreign Minister Alexei Meshkov and the special representative of the President of the Republic of Cyprus, Sotos Zakheos.

"(The two diplomats) exchanged their views on the situation in the Cypriot settlement process, including the normalization of the situation around the exclusive economic zone of the island. Unilateral actions, demonstration of force are unacceptable here and may lead to aggravation not only in Cypriot affairs, but across the Eastern Mediterranean region too," the ministry said in a statement.

The diplomats also discussed the status of the Russian-Cypriot relations and possible development prospects in various areas.
