First sentence passed in Kharkiv region state administration's occupation case

KHARKIV. Oct 9 (Interfax) - The Kharkiv Kyivskyi District Court has passed the first sentence in the case of March 1 mass disturbances in which the Kharkiv region state administration's building was occupied.

"The Kharkiv Kyivskyi District Court has found Andriy Churpyn guilty of participation in mass disturbances near the Kharkiv region state administration and the illegal carrying and storing of weapons. A five-year sentence was passed on him," Kharkiv region prosecutor Yuriy Danylchenko told a press conference on Thursday.

The pretrial inquiry into the actions of other suspected occupants of the Kharkiv region state administration has been completed, he said. The four suspects were charged with mass disturbances and their cases were referred to a court, which would consider case merits.

A bill of indictment regarding two suspected participants in massive disturbances on March 14 near the building housing offices of Prosvita, the Patriot of Ukraine and others, which developed into a shootout and the murder of two people, has also been referred to a court, Danylchenko said.

"The bill of indictment regarding two suspected participants in mass disturbances was referred to the Dzerzhinskyi District Court on September 26. The police continue the inquiry," Danylchenko said.
