Chinese State Council Premier set to broaden cooperation with Russia in innovations - newspaper

MOSCOW. Oct 10 (Interfax) - Chinese State Council Premier Li Keqiang thinks the share of scientific and technological innovations should grow considerably in cooperation projects between China and Russia.

"Cooperation in innovations is a remarkable moment of Chinese-Russian interaction. Our countries are facing essential tasks of alteration of their economic structure and transformation of the development model. Therefore, it is important to develop a new model of interaction and to broaden areas of cooperation," Li wrote in an article published by Rossiyskaya Gazeta on Friday.

He suggested that the countries spread their collaboration into high-tech engineering, energy saving technologies, environmental protection, bio-pharmaceutics, information technologies and financial services.

"I am confident that the achievement of this and other tasks will serve the interests of transformation of the economic structure and strengthening of the combined might of our states," the State Council Premier stated.

Li said that during his visit to Russia (on October 12-14) he would attend the Third Moscow International Forum for Innovative Development "Open Innovations" together with Russian Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev and discuss innovative development issues with scientists and businessmen of Russia and other countries.

"We are well aware of a considerable improvement of the investment climate in Russia and the implementation of an economic modernization strategy aimed at higher levels of competitiveness. I can say that processes developing in the economies of our countries will have a chance to manifest themselves with renewed vigor. We should use this chance to broaden the range of converging interests, deepen the interaction in various fields and establish the closest economic relationship," Li said.

He pointed out in the article that the Russia-China trade turnover reached a record level of $90 billion last year. Moreover, China has been the largest trade partner of Russia for a fourth year in a row, and Russia has been No9 amongst China's trade partners. Russian investment in China totals $32 billion.

"China and Russia are the biggest neighbors and their bilateral relations are entering a new developmental stage. We are not just good neighbors but also like-minded friends and reliable partners in mutually advantageous cooperation. Our relations are justly called an illustrative example of equal cooperation between states in the 21st century," Li underscored.
