Schaeffler commissions 2 bln ruble automotive plant in Ulyanovsk

ULYANOVSK. Oct 10 (Interfax) - Germany's Schaeffler AG commissioned a new automotive components plant in Ulyanovsk region on Friday, the regional economic development ministry told Interfax.

"The enterprise is located in the Volga industrial part. It currently produces clutches and transmission components at two production lines. Plans are to begin producing Tarol bearings used in Sapsan and Lastochka electric trains by the end of 2014," a ministry spokesman said.

Schaeffler plans to localize production of five types of auto components once the plant reaches design capacity in 2017: clutches, engine details, gearboxes, belt drives, and hub bearings, as well as bearings and housings for rail transportation.

"Overall investment in the project currently exceeds 2 billion rubles," the spokesman said.
