Gubarev's wife says she temporarily heads the party Novorossia

MOSCOW. Oct 13 (Interfax) - Yekaterina Gubareva, the wife of former "people's mayor" of Donbas Pavel Gubarev, says she was temporarily appointed leader of the party Novorossia after the attack on her husband.

"We will hope that Pavel will soon recover after his injury and will continue our common fight. For this time being, the political council has decided to appoint me as leader of the movement Novorossia Party," Gubareva said on Pavel Gubarev's account on Facebook on Monday.

Miroslav Rudenko, deputy speaker of the Supreme Council of the Donetsk People's Republic and a member of the political movement Novorossia, told Interfax the movement's participants fully trust Gubareva.

"Yekaterina proved to be a leader of the Donbas people's militia when her husband was held by the Ukrainian troops. She was able to lead the movement through the most difficult months, March and April. She is a very strong person and politician. We fully trust her," Rudenko said.

Gubareva is among the people on the sanctions lists of the EU, Canada, and Switzerland over the situation in Ukraine. On these lists, Gubareva is called "the foreign minister" of the DPR.

The socio-political movement Novorossia, which is led by Pavel Gubarev, told Interfax on Monday morning Gurabev was hospitalized in Rostov-on-Don after his car came under fire and crashed into a pillar.
