DPD plans to invest 40 mln euros in south Moscow terminal
MOSCOW. Oct 14 (Interfax) - Express parcel delivery service company DPD plans to invest 40 million euros to build a new terminal in south Moscow, Leonid Zondberg, the commercial director of DPD Russia, said.
"Because of speedy growth [in the e-commerce sector], we plan to invest further in our infrastructure. We plan to build a new terminal in 2016, which will be able to process over 12,000 parcels per hour. Investment will be around 40 million euros," he said, speaking at a roundtable on Russia's logistics market in the Interfax central office in Moscow.
DPD in Russia also plans to invest in IT products for e-commerce, he added. In the summer the company launched a predictable delivery service and "now almost any recipient in 7,000 Russian cities can, after we accept a parcel from an online store, receive texts on when delivery will be made, which we guarantee 95%. They can change dates or addresses via the website if they know that they are not going to be home, or accept a delivery at the office instead of at home," he said.
Online trade is currently the main growth driver for express delivery services around the world and in Russia. For DPD this segment is surging. Zondberg predicts that overall the company will see almost 50% growth in 2014 in Russia in terms of the number of items delivered. This figure is higher than the forecast made a year ago. DPD plans to deliver 14 million parcels.
DPD delivers parcels and freight, offering transport and logistics services and freight forwarding services. The company was established in 1977 in Aschaffenburg, Germany. It is owned by the holding GeoPost, a subsidiary of French postal operator La Poste.
