OSCE mission in Ukraine to move units closer to border with Russia
KYIV. Oct 15 (Interfax) - Chief Monitor of the OSCE Special Monitoring Mission in Ukraine (SMM) Etugrul Apakan has said that SMM is planning to gradually redeploy its teams to the Ukrainian-Russian border.
At a meeting with Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko he said that the mission will expand its operations in Ukraine. "We are planning to enhance monitoring and control over the ceasefire regime and border security," he said.
The report says the number of observers and armed vehicles of the mission will be increased soon. "The mission plans to gradually move its units directly to the Ukrainian-Russian border," the press service says.
"We respect the unity and integrity of Ukraine. Your Peace Plan, Mr. President, is a basis of our mandate in Ukraine. We are interested in its fulfillment," Apakan noted.
