DPR: At least two die in Ukrainian army bombardments of Donetsk

DONETSK/KYIV. Oct 16 (Interfax) - The Ukrainian artillery shelled the Donetsk Kuibyshevskyi district last night causing civilian casualties, a source in the self-proclaimed Donetsk People's Republic (DPR) military department told Interfax.

"The Oktyabrska mine camp came under fire last night. Two people were killed and six were wounded in that residential area," the source said.

Eyewitnesses said the Ukrainian army was using incendiary munitions. The reports are being verified, he added.

On the whole, the situation along the line of contact between the warring sides on the DPR territory has not changed much, the source continued.

"The Ukrainian army is trying to force us to leave the positions in the Donetsk airport. There is an artillery duel in Debaltseve where the Ukrainian troops are attempting an offensive on certain reinforced positions," he said.

The intensity of combat operations has reduced insignificantly over the past few weeks, the source stated.

Meanwhile, the Ukrainian army claims it still controls and is successfully defending Donetsk airport.

"We are still in control of the Donetsk airport despite another attempt to storm it (. . .) There are no casualties amongst Ukrainian servicemen," says a report the army operation press center has posted on Facebook.

The Ukrainian army said its positions were attacked several times on Wednesday in the area of Debaltseve, Chornukhyne, Ridkodub, Avdiivka and Hranytne.
