Crimea has potential to become "agricultural donor" for Russia - Aksyonov

SIMFEROPOL. Oct 17 (Interfax) - Crimea is planning to triple agricultural production in the region to the level of 1990, the republic's head, Sergei Aksyonov, said in Simferopol on Friday.

"Crimea has huge agricultural potential that must be developed. Crimea is in the position to become a donor to Russia, as it was previously a donor to the USSR. Our task is to reach the level of at least 1990, when we harvested around 3 million grain crops and when fruit harvests exceeded current [figures] more than threefold. This task is entirely within our capabilities," he said at a meeting to celebrate Agriculture Day.

Aksyonov also said the regional administration supported an initiative put forth by Russia's Cabinet of Ministers to allow the regions to offer tax holidays for individual entrepreneurs registering for the first time ever, including agricultural entrepreneurs.
